I'm watching the closing statements of the live "West Wing" debate right now, and I'm pretty impressed.
Without reading what other people have to say about the quality of this episode, and without personally reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses, I can say that this has been, on the whole, rather well done.
Along with many predictable issues they raised tonight, the rigid structure of Presidential debates has been tackled. That's most likely because it makes for more interesting drama on the television show, but it's ironically refreshing to watch what they call "a real debate," though this real debate was scripted.
lol I see we can vote on who won the debate. They both did well, in my opinion, but if you know anything about me (or the average West Wing viewer), you know whose positions I agree with. ;)
When a transcript comes up, I'll post my favorite line of tonight's show.
Here we go:
"What did Liberals do that was so offensive? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. We created social security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation, Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare, passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act.
"What did Conservatives do? They opposed every single one of those things, every one.
"So when you try to hurl that label at my feet -- Liberal -- as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work Senator, because I will pick up that label and wear it as a badge of honor."
